On Tuesday, Bryce Harper left an indelible mark in baseball lore when he provided what will surely prove to be a oft-quoted retort to a reporter’s question if the Nationals’ 19-year-old phenom had a favorite beer.
“That’s a clown question, bro,” Harper said. Classic.
Of course, the remark just begged to be answered by an actual beer and lo and behold, a brewery out in Denver announced it will craft a new lager called—what else?—Clown Question.
Westword reported yesterday that the Denver Beer Co. will release Clown Question in time for June 25, when the Nationals visit the Colorado Rockies. The beer will be brewed in the style of a Canadian lager. (The Nationals wer in Toronto—where Harper is of legal drinking age—when the clown question was asked.)
Charlie Berger, Denver Brew Co.’s brewmaster, told Westword that “maybe we’ll serve it with a big red clown nose.”
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Clown Question will make its way back east. Denver Brew Co. ales are available only in its immediate surroundings in the Mile High City.
In other clown question news, Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was asked by ESPN how he might have responded were he in Harper’s place: “I would have said fuck you, I’m 19.”
