Coldplay will be in town on Sunday.MONDAY
It’s the first Fort Reno of July and this one has Fort Reno alums Give, returning to show us that they remember D.C. Hardcore and we should too. Come early for Boris Milic and Coup Sauvage. Coup Savage has one of the most interesting setups we’ve seen in awhile. It’s some disco, Paris Is Burning-esque fun times complete with audience participation. Free, 7:00 p.m.
>> Galaxy Hut: Torches. $5, 9:00 p.m.
TUESDAY
They sold out their first night at the 9:30 Club and now it appears that the Scissor Sisters‘ second night of dancehall overstimulation has also sold out. Check Craigslist, and for those who were lucky enough to get tickets, get there early for opener Rye Rye. The long-time M.I.A. protege and Baltimore native has been making more waves and receiving more well-deserved press lately. Sold Out, 8:30 p.m.
>> Wolf Trap: Crosby, Stills & Nash. $45 in house/$30 lawn, 8:00 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
You can play tourist and go to the Mall to watch the fireworks and listen to the artists from A Capitol Fourth. We’ve all done it at some point. Or, for something just a wee bit smaller, Trophy Wife (who we interviewed), is celebrating their D.C. CD release at a potluck at a place calling themselves the Rocketship. The house at 1223 Decatur Street NW invites all of you without holiday plans to bring food and take in music. Hugh McElroy, Southern Problems and Lozen will also play sets. 2:00 p.m.
THURSDAY
They have an irritatingly un-Googleable name, but The Men are gaining more recognition for their excellent album, Open Your Heart. They can go from raw and angry with songs like “Animal,” to “Country Song,” where they slow down and really let the guitar slide ring do the singing. Streetwalkers and Mary Christ will open the show at DC9. $10, 8:30 p.m.
>> Black Cat: Washerwoman, Get a Tan, Glitterlust. $8, 8:00 p.m.
>> Fort Reno: Troll Tax, Big Mouth, Atoms Apart. Free, 7:00 p.m.
FRIDAY
Get literary this weekend and spend a night at the Velvet Lounge with gothic new wave duo Lenorable. It’s been about eight months since we featured them in Three Stars, so keep an ear out for new dark, sweeping synths. They’ll be playing with Synthetic Division and Miyazaki. $8, 9:30 p.m.
>> Black Cat: Young Rapids, Gary B and the Notions, Graph Rabbit, The Sea Life. $10, 9:00 p.m.
SATURDAY They were our first set of tour diarists and we sat down with them about what they’d miss about our fair city once they finally left, but there’s always room in our hearts and on our concert calendars for whimsical alt-country act These United States. They’ll be coming back with The Henry Clay People and Kingsley Flood. Welcome home, boys. $13, 9:00 p.m.
SUNDAY
Okay, we’ll admit it, the last time Coldplay came to the Verizon Center we spent a good chunk of the review talking about…balls. One can assume that by this time around they’ll be back with different set pieces. The balladeers from England will be joined by Robyn, the Swedish pop sensation who should really be more of a sensation than she actually is. $46.50-$107, 7:00 p.m.
>> Howard Theatre: Tangerine Dream. 8:00 p.m.
