Miss last weekend’s tiny-venue reunions by The Dismemberment Plan? That’s OK. They’ll
be playing again October 6 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. as part of the latest edition of the Virgin Mobile FreeFest, which announced its lineup this morning.
The I.M.P.-curated festival also includes sets by Jack White, Nas, M83, ZZ Top (what?), Santigold, Das Racist, Future Islands, Ben Folds Five (who opened for Beck at your associate editor’s first rock concert), Alabama Shakes and, oh yeah, Skrillex. Maybe he’ll be riding in on Yeezy’s private plane.
In the Dance Forest are Above & Beyond, Porter & Zedd, Thomas Gold, Nervo, Alvin Risk and Penguin Prison, with more names to be announced.
Tickets will be made available to the general public at noon on Friday, August 24, but the festival’s Twitter followers—@virginmlive—get dibs the day before.
Also in the main lineup are Portland, Ore. psych-poppers Portugal. The Man. Yeah, that wasn’t a typo, the band’s name is “Portugal. The Man” with a period inexplicably stuck in the middle. Hasn’t floating punctuation become passé? Either way, congratulations, Virgin Mobile FreeFest: You just made an enemy out of every copy editor in town.
And give a hat tip to the Post’s David Malitz, who totally called it on M83, Santigold, Alabama Shakes, Jack White and Skrillex.
