We had plenty of reasons to be excited when 15-year-old Katie Ledecky won the gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle race at the London Olympics—she’s a Bethesda native, after all, and will be entering her sophomore year at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart later this month.
Bethesda officials will gather next week to honor her and fellow local Olympians Scott Parsons and Julie Zetlin. Parsons has participated in the past three Olympic Games as a slalom kayaker (we spoke to him while he was in London), while Zetlin took part in her first games as a rhythmic gymnast.
The ceremony is set for Friday, August 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bethesda Metro Center and is open to the public.
