President Obama ordered that U.S. flags at all government and military sites will be flown at half-staff later this week when the astronaut Neil Armstrong, who died Saturday, is buried. Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, died following complications from cardiovascular surgery.
Armstrong is set to be buried Friday in Cincinnati following a private funeral, his family said. In a statement Saturday, Obama called Armstrong “among the greatest of American heroes—not just of his time, but of all time.”
Flags will be lowered at all U.S. government offices, diplomatic posts and military installations. Closer to home, for those who want to discuss Armstrong’s legacy, the National Air and Space Museum is hosting a brief talk Wednesday at noon about the many artifacts in the museum’s collection documenting Armstrong’s achievements.
