Last time we checked, a judge ordered accused killer Albrecht Muth held for more psychiatric evaluations before he could stand trial for the killing of his socialite wife, Viola Drath, last year.

But now Patch reports that a team of experts hired by the prosecution say that the man who claimed to be an Iraqi general, said that Iranian intelligence agents killed his wife and was apparently told by an angel to go on a hunger strike isn’t crazy, but rather a crazy good con-man:

“Mr. Muth is an intelligent, psychopathic con artist with a severe and chronic Narcissistic Personality Disorder … It is my opinion that Albrecht Gero Muth is presently competent to stand trial,” he concluded.

Hugonnet believes Muth deliberately attempted to minimize his capabilities in intelligence tests the doctors administered and feigned being delusional.

He calls Muth’s commitment to St. Elizabeths and subsequent evaluations of incompetency “the con of his life.”

“Mr. Muth’s cons have been multifaceted and multidimensional. Mr. Muth built his entire life by constructing multiple and often simultaneous false narratives, tales within tales, Russian nesting dolls, in order to advance his strategic objectives,” wrote Hugonnet.

According to the doctors, Muth’s impressive capacity to weave a story to make himself look crazy isn’t enough to stop him from standing trial.

That’s not to say Muth won’t keep trying, though. The Washington Times reports that Muth has written a 250-page manuscript titled “Judgment at Washington, Triumph of Illusion: a Journal of Life in D.C. Jail,” where he further insists that Iran was behind Drath’s death.

It’ll be up to a judge to decide whether Muth is crazy or a con-man; a status hearing is set for September 6.
