The day has arrived. The Nationals are officially shutting down Stephen Strasburg.

The Associated Press reported that Nationals manager Davey Johnson made the announcement this morning. He stated that the media attention these past few weeks on the pitcher’s finale has been “unbelievable.”

Strasburg’s last appearance will likely was expected to be at the start of Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets. After last night’s disappointing start, in which he gave up five runs in three innings, the team made the decision to move up the shut down date.
