Give Ron Moten credit where it’s due: he knows how to attract attention. From the pro-Fenty go-go videos he produced to his ideological transformation from a Democrat to a “Civil Rights Republican” and his new tell-all autobiography, Moten has consistently managed to keep himself part of the conversation.

Now, according to the Post’s Mike DeBonis, he’s used his sharp promotional skills to attack incumbent Councilmember Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7), who he is looking to replace come November 6. In an video campaign ad, Moten splices scenes from Mitt Romney’s infamous “47 percent” speech with comments made by Alexander in 2009 in which she opined, “I do not like people who do not elevate themselves, who drop out of school.”

The insinuation is clear: Alexander and Romney equally dislike the poor and tired masses. Making the link is somewhat tenuous, though, seeing as Moten is running as a candidate of the same party that Romney leads, while Alexander isn’t. To his credit, Moten has said that he’s isn’t the normal type of Republican, and he recently said that he hadn’t yet decided if he’d be voting for Obama or Romney.
