Poppins and Purell (Washington Performing Arts Society)

We don’t profess to know much about dance, but one set at the annual VelocityDC Dance Festival this weekend should surely entice people to come. In her set, “VelocityDC Top Ten,” the choreographer Gesel Mason will feature four guest performers in the form of seven-week-old chihuahua-pug mix puppies.

I mean, jeez. Look at them. The are originally from the foothills of West Virginia, according to the Washington Performing Arts Society, one of VelocityDC’s sponsors. The dark-haired pups are named Poppins and Purell, and the light-haired ones are called Pumpernickel and Potpie. They’ll have walk-on roles in Mason’s routine, which goes on at the top of the shows tonight, tomorrow and the weekend.

Better, still, is that the puppies could stay in D.C. After the dance festival, the alliteratively named dogs will head to the Washington Animal Rescue League to be put up for adoption.

VelocityDC begins tonight and continues through Sunday at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). Tickets $18.
