The Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that it is investigating a report of shots fired on H Street NE this morning, and a source tells DCist that the incident was related to the release of new Air Jordan shoes, where a large crowd had gathered since last night. (Lines have been reported at other shoe stores across town.) No one was injured, say police.
The Titan of Trinidad puts the location at DTLR at 902 H Street NE, and has a few on-the-scene tweets from people who first heard of the shooting. People who live nearby say they heard seven or eight shots.
UPDATE, 11:30 a.m.: Frozen Tropics brings a first-person account of what happened this morning: “I witnessed the whole thing after my morning run. There was a line – about 50 so people, mostly 15 to 21, waiting for DLTR to open. Three young men approached from 9th Str wearing black hoodies and one pulled out a handgun. At this point the whole crowd ran out to the street just as one of the young men started shooting at point blank range. He fired about 6 to 8 shots before leaving up 9th – probably getting into a car with the two men he walked up with.”
