The ResidentsWEDNESDAY
Most of the bands we’ve ever heard of are playing in Baltimore tonight, so we’re going to take a gamble on this one. Flagship and East Ghost are playing at DC9. Go see something new, mostly because we love the name East Ghost. $8, 8:30 p.m.
THURSDAY
The Future Times DJs have hit the jackpot on this one. They’re bringing Sal P, known for his work with Liquid Liquid and Fist of Facts in for his DJ debut in D.C. to Tropicalia (at 14th U). As far as what to expect from Sal…disco and funk are good bets, but he didn’t become a big name among electronic acts by doing the expected. $5, 9:00 p.m. 21+
>> Black Cat: Man Man, Murder By Death, Samantha Crain. $20, 8:00 p.m.
FRIDAY
Jocie Adams from the Low Anthem will be bringing her guitar, piano and cello to DC9 to headline a bill of women with beautiful voices and intricate arrangements. The Sweater Set put out one of our favorite local albums of 2011 and having seen Marian Fahey McLaughlin open for Six Organs of Admittance, we can speak to her talent as well. Samantha Harmonie also opens. $10, 8:30 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: The 27s, The Courtesans, Davey Brown. $10, 9:00 p.m.
>> U Street Music Hall: Lee Foss, Beautiful Swimmers. $10, 10:00 p.m.
SATURDAY
There are several great local options this weekend and we can easily recommend all of them as there’s at least one Three Stars alum in each show. At the 9:30 Club, see Dance for the Dying, who we recommend if you like Metric, Heart or rock and roll in general. Red Palace liked them — they headlined the final show there. Tonight they’ll be opening for Crash Boom Bang along with Elim. $15, 7:00 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Eternal Summers, Technicians, Dot Dash, Golden Looks. $10, 9:00 p.m.
>> Pyramid Atlantic: X-I-O, New Loft, Blue Sausage Infant, Tag Cloud, and Billy Pizarro. $10/$5 with student ID, 7:30 p.m.
SUNDAY
It’s really hard to keep secrets and surprises in the age of both oversharing and easy access to information but The Residents, who play in costume (the eyeballs are perhaps the most famous but they’ve also performed in bunny costumes) and change up their stylistic approach with every performance have managed to keep their identities a complete secret. See whatever oddity they’ve concocted at Sixth & I. $25 in advance/$28 day of show, 7:00 p.m.
>> 9:30 Club: Toro y Moi, Wild Belle, Dog Bite. Sold Out, 7:00 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Drop Electric, Galaxy Dynamite!, DELTAnine, G&TCH, DJs Bassdread & Conway Jennings. $15, 8:30 p.m.
