Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) has opinions on a lot of things, and the “deer reduction operations” started yesterday in Rock Creek Park by the National Park Service is one of them.

In a tweet this morning, Barry referred to the Park Service as a “MOFO” in a tweet expressing his opposition to the operations, which will involve shooting over 150 deer over three years to bring their numbers down. (“MOFO” stands for, well, in case you don’t know, “motherf**ker.”) In another tweet, Barry said he’d rather see the deer relocated than shot; he also used the hashtag #DontKillBambi. (Interestingly, this apology came much faster than when he insulted Asian Americans.)

According to the Post Barry has apologized for insulting the Park Service, and said that it was one of his staff members that send the offending tweet. The Huffington Post reports that it isn’t the first time that Barry has used the term, though the last time it was in reference to the Studio Theatre play, The Motherfucker With The Hat.

The Park Service will continue the shootings tonight through Saturday.
