Let this be a lesson in the values of mass transit.

Yesterday’s game between the Nationals and the White Sox started 20 minutes late because—wait for it—because the umpires were stuck in traffic on their way to the game. According to the team, the umpires arrived at Nationals Park at 7:15 p.m., 15 minutes after the expected start time. The game kicked off at 7:20 p.m.

The umpires were apparently delayed by traffic caused by a large pro-immigration rally at the U.S. Capitol. They also knew they would be late, calling the team 40 minutes before the game to say they were a mile away but would likely arrive late. It’s unclear why they didn’t walk from that point on, though.

The Nats won, 5-2.
