Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters this morning that a cab driver who was shot by two suspects overnight has died. The driver was found wounded in his taxi on the 2400 block of Ontario Road NW by two MPD officers patrolling the Adams Morgan neighborhood about 3:15 a.m., police said.
The driver was hit in the shoulder, and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital, Lanier said.
Two suspects in the shooting were taken into custody following a shootout with police. More than a dozen shots were fired in total, Lanier said, according to NBC4. Authorities say they believe they have all suspects in custody, as well as the weapon involved in the cabbie’s, though the scene remains a very active investigation.
“While we are confident that we have apprehended all parties involved as well as the weapon used, we are seeking assistance from anyone that has information related to it,” MPD Capt. Aubrey Montgomery wrote in an email to Adams Morgan residents this morning.
Police have closed off the 1700 block of Kalorama Road NW, as well as the 2200 and 2300 blocks of Ontario Road NW.
