When she appeared at a Washington Post event in April, Ivanka Trump said the opening of a new hotel is an incomparable experience. She’ll get to have another of those breathless moments in 2016 when the Old Post Office is transformed into her family’s newest luxury hotel.

The Trump Organization and the General Services Administration finished their negotiations over a 60-year lease on the Old Post Office building, clearing the way for Ivanka Trump and her bilious billionaire father, Donald Trump, to proceed on a $200 million renovation of the 114-year-old tower on Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

When finished, the Trumps will have turned the Old Post Office into a high-end, 260-room hotel, featuring a spa, conference facilities, and restaurants. It will also contain a museum in remembrance of the building’s history as a landmark postal facility, which will greet visitors with an “unbelievable dedicated entrance,” as Ivanka Trump termed it during her April appearance.

“Redeveloping the Old Post Office with a private sector partner will save millions of taxpayer dollars while restoring a unique and important historic asset,” Dan Tangherlini, the acting head of the GSA, said in a news release.

Washington City Paper reports that the Trumps will start paying GSA a monthly rent of $250,000. Another thing the Trumps will be paying: the District’s possessory interest tax, which is levied on vendors and contractors that conduct their business on federal properties that otherwise go untaxed. The Trump Organization’s request to get around paying was rejected by D.C. officials.

So, yes, the Trumps are moving into D.C., and with the Old Post Office’s proximity to the White House, it’s just perfect spot for Donald Trump, should he choose to do another lattice-haired Hamlet act in 2016.
