In response to June’s extremely joyful gay pride month, which was capped off with the end of the Defense of Marriage Act, ex-gay advocates have declared July “Ex-Gay Pride Month.” Take that, happy homosexuals!

Organized by Duggar-employer the Family Research Council and new FRC Action group Voice of the Voiceless, “Ex-Gay Pride Month” is being held to “draw attention to the ever-increasing phenomenon of ex-gays or former homosexuals.” The month will end July 31 with a dinner in Washington, D.C., which Rep. Michelle Bachmann has been invited to attend. Also invited is Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), who recently introduced a Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

Voice of the Voiceless, run by DL Foster (who has called for Dan Savage’s arrest) and ex-gay counselor Christopher Doyle, is also sponsoring a music video contest, which costs $30 to enter. The winning entry will be “selected based on original song content, appeal and professionalism,” and will debut at the dinner.

It has been a rough month for the ex-gays. Following DOMA’s and Proposition 8’s fall, ex-gay ministry Exodus International shut down, with its president Alan Chambers apologizing for the pain the group caused.

As Right Wing Watch reported, organizers of “Ex-Gay Pride Month” will likely not be happy with DCist’s coverage. In a blog post, Foster compared “being gay to being a slave and likened ex-gay activists like himself to Harriet Tubman while painting gay rights advocates as modern-day slave holders.”
