On Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Botanic Garden’s corpse flower finally bloomed, releasing its well-known stink. But by Monday evening, there was no smell of rotting flesh in the air at the Capitol Hill conservatory. Just, as many, many people joked, the smell of tourists who had been out in the hot sun all day.
DCist asked a few people who visited the not-very-smelly titan arum between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to describe the plant in three words or less. This is what they said.
Thanks to everyone who spoke to DCist. In order as they appear: Laurie from Kentucky, Debbie from Southern Maryland, Neboror from Alexandria, Eddie from D.C., Mark from Falls Church, Rose from Virginia, Robin from Arlington, Rondell from D.C., and Allan, Wanda, John, Bill, and Sandy from Maryland.
