Cause is located on Ninth Street in Shaw, just south of U Street.
Cause, the “Philanthropub” which is nobly dedicated to giving away all of its profits (which currently don’t exist) to charity, isn’t closing its door permanently.
Barred in D.C. reported last night that Cause would be closing “likely sometime this month.” This information was based on a “reliable source.”
But Raj Ratwani, co-owner of the restaurant, told DCist Cause will only be closed for a short time so repairs can take place.
“With the $1,000 we raised from the crowd-funding campaign and additional investment we are going to tackle the major A/C and electrical problems that have plaguing Cause,” Ratwani said in an email. “These are major projects that will require cutting into the ceiling, etc. so we are going to TEMPORARILY close to tackle these problems. We will close on August 19th and we plan to reopen in September. Besides, I need a little vacation!”
As Young and Hungry reported this week, Cause lost $8,745.95 in the first quarter of 2013. Despite the loss, Cause gave away $8,445 to four D.C. charities.
Earlier this month, the restaurant started a fundraising campaign to replace a faulty air conditioning unit. Just $1,000 of the $11,000 goal was raised.
