Early this morning, at approximately 7:15 a.m., a Metrobus hit a pedestrian near the National Mall, at 7th Street and Madison Drive NW.
The pedestrian was a male jogger who apparently didn’t see the bus while running. In an email to DCist, WMATA spokesperson Philip Stewart says that a “preliminary investigation indicates that the jogger ran into the street against the traffic signal.” Stewart also says that the bus remained at the scene after the incident, but was taken out of service. Passengers were transferred to another bus.
The Washington Post reports that jogger was taken to a hospital and was conscious and breathing. Stewart says the investigation is ongoing and we’ll update when we learn more.
