It’s (basically) official: A Whole Foods is coming to Navy Yard.
A representative from firm W.C. Smith announced last night that the fancy grocer signed a lease for 800 New Jersey Avenue SE, as ANC commissioner David Garber tweeted and Urban Turf reported.
According to Urban Turf, an announcement from Whole Foods is expected to be made in November.
D.C. already has four Whole Foods, all in the Northwest. As Garber wrote in June for the Hill Is Home when speculation about the store was once again rearing its head, “While I don’t begrudge a private retailer’s decision-making process for where to locate — read: lots of stats and formulas about income, density, and location convenience — I think I stand with a fairly large portion of the Southeast, Southwest, and Northeast communities in thinking It’s. About. Dang. Time. For. Some. Stores. On. Our. Side… right?”
The time is now.
