The woman who led police on a chase through D.C. before being fatally shot near the Capitol earlier this month had a documented struggle with mental illness.

According to documents released by the city of Stamford, Conn. and obtained by the Washington Post, the Associated Press and other outlets, police were called to Miriam Carey’s apartment at least twice. Carey, who attempted to drive her car through a White House barricade, called police last November to report that people were stalking her, but officers found no one when they arrived. From the Post:

The next month, Carey’s boyfriend, Eric Francis, 55, called police to report that his girlfriend had walked out of her apartment with their daughter, who was dressed only in pajamas, according to the report and an audio recording of the call.

“Miriam, she’s outside now with the baby without any coat,” Francis said, adding that Carey had earlier locked herself in the bathroom. “I definitely need to take her somewhere to get some help.”

Carey was pacing inside the apartment when officers arrived, and she asked them to make Francis leave, according to the report. When officers tried to calm her, she told them Stamford and Connecticut were on a “security lock down” and she was “the Prophet of Stamford,” according to the report.

“She further stated that President Obama had put her residence under electronic surveillance and that it was being fed live to all the national news outlets,” the report says.

Francis told police that Carey suffered from “delusions” and “episodes of Schizophrenia” after the birth of their daughter, who was in the car at the time of Carey’s death. Carey’s mother previously said her daughter suffered from post-partum depression.

The Los Angeles Times adds:

Police were called back to her home later that month. She again said she was a “prophet for the city of Stamford” and that she has “direct communication with President Obama and will only speak to him,” according to the reports. While officers tried to handcuff her, she fought back, kicking and injuring one of them. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
