The city has selected a partnership of developers to transform the Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus in Northwest D.C., as Housing Complex and the Washington Business Journal first reported.

Hines and Urban Atlantic were awarded the contract for the 67-acre site, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor Hoskins told media outlets. Two retail areas, a Hyatt conference hotel, and George Washington University and MIT facilities are planned, plus 318 affordable housing units with over 70 set aside for senior citizens.

Not included in the plan is a Wegmans. The mid-Atlantic grocery chain was part of a Walter Reed plan proposed by Roadside Development. Hoskins told WBJ he hopes Wegmans “will still look at the site,” but “ultimately it might be a different retailer.”

In a statement, Jo Natale, Wegmans’ director of media relations, said they are “disappointed in the decision, because we have a good partnership with Roadside and thought they developed a great plan.”
