After yesterday’s snow storm blanketed the D.C. area in several inches of snow—as many as 8 inches in some areas!—the city’s government is looking to its citizens to help shovel some snow.

In particular, the city needs volunteers to help do snow removal from the homes of senior residents and residents with disabilities. It’s D.C. law for property owners (both residential and commercial) to remove snow from the sidewalks around their property within 24 hours after snowfall.

Clarence Fluker, Communications and Special Initiatives Director for Serve DC, tells DCist that, right now, there is a “great need for volunteers,” particularly in Wards 4, 7, and 8. Those who are interested in volunteering can sign up at their website, here. Fluker says “we still have a couple of months of winter left,” and could use all the help they can get.
