DC News FOX 5 DC WTTG

From Fox5 comes a troubling report: The daughter of a man who suffered a massive heart attack and later died says a nearby firefighter didn’t come to his aid.

Marie Mills told the TV station that several people went to Engine 26 at 1340 Rhode Island Avenue NE to seek assistance for her 77-year-old father Medric “Cecil” Mills, but none came.

Several people called 911, but at Engine 26, Mills says this is what they were told.

“He said something about his lieutenant and some type of authorization, and that he could not come and to recall dispatch and advise them that they needed to send somebody, and that the condition of the patient could be getting worse,” she said, “When I saw my dad was having shallow breaths, I ran to the curb and started screaming for him to come and help my father.”

Mayor Vince Gray’s office told Fox5’s Matt Ackland the report was “troubling” and said there’s an ongoing investigation. Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Paul Quander also said there’s a full investigation underway.

In a release, Councilmember Tommy Wells, who chairs the committee on Judiciary and Public Safety, called the incident “tragic” and vowed an investigation.

“This man served D.C. his entire life and he deserved better,” Wells said. “I am very concerned and I am investigating this matter through my committee on Judiciary and Public Safety. We have made inquiries with both the Office of Unified Communication and Fire and Emergency Medical Services.”
