Authorities made an arrest this morning in connection to the vandalizing of dozens of trees in the Bloomingdale and Truxton Circle neighborhoods.
Yesterday, multiple reports came in that many trees in that area of Northwest D.C. had deep circles carved out of them. A spokesperson with the Metropolitan Police Department says that an arrest was made this morning and an investigation is underway.
The damage to the trees could be enough to kill them, a spokesperson with Urban Forestry tells NBC4. With winds expected to hit 50 mph today, it could cost thousands of dollars to replace them if they do indeed die.
Update: MPD spokesperson Gwendolyn Crump says the suspect is being charged with destruction to D.C. property.
