As promised, the snowy owl hit by a bus in downtown D.C. was released back into the wild this weekend near Superior, Wis. by a Minnesota rehabilitation center.
“The snowy flew off with strong steady wing beats, showing off the new flight feathers,” Julia Ponder, The Raptor’s Center’s director, said in a statement. “He is in great condition and will hopefully head back north in the coming days.”
The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota replaced several of the owls feathers, which were singed. “We’re uncertain as to what caused the singed-like appearance to the owl’s feathers, but it does resemble patients we have treated who burned their flight feathers after flying over an intense heat source, such as a methane burner,” clinic manager Lori Arent said at the time.
D.C. tried to destroy you, snowy owl, but it failed. Stay clear of us, little buddy.
