This Thursday, be prepared to take an extra long lunch break every day for the next month and a day while you check out World Cup matches. Here are some bars—most in D.C.— where you can watch the action and enjoy some specials—and if you have any suggestions, put them in the comments!
LUCKY BAR: Doors open at noon on June 12 (the opening ceremony is at 2 p.m.), and there is a “Taste of Brazil” menu: “All day everyday during Brazil 2014! Menu features Brazilian street food, classic cocktails and beers.” (Also: “16oz Budweiser World Cup stadium bottles for $5.”) The bar is open at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. on match days, so check the website.
Lucky Bar is located at 1221 Connecticut Avenue NW.
JAMES HOBAN: There are specials like, “$3 Bud/Bud Light 16oz World Cup Aluminum Bottles ($2 after USA goals!)” and “$5 Brazilian Caipirinhas” plus international food specials during select games, raffles and more. Plus the kick-off BBQ on Thursday starts at 3:30 p.m. with music and giveaways.

FADO IRISH PUB: Fado is kicking off its festivities with a “Special Match day menu” on Thursday: “$5 Heineken, $5 Budweiser Special Edition World Cup Bottles, $5 Crushes, $5 House Red and White Wine and $6 Catoctin Creek Shorties available all day.” There’s also an Instagram contest.

BIERGARTEN HAUS: Open at 11 a.m. every day of the World Cup, Biergarten Haus will have lots of items—shirts, soccer jerseys, soccer scarves, beer glasses and a camera—for giveaways on days that Germany is playing.

KANGAROO BOXING CLUB: The restaurant will be open at 11 a.m. for weekday matches and 10 .m. on the weekend. A press release says, “Kitchen will open at noon serving the late night menu including f—k’it buckets. During USA games, wings will be available. KBC will offer $3.00 16oz Pabst Blue Ribbon Tall Boys and a $12 PBR & Bucket Combo.”
The Kangaroo Boxing Club is located at 3410 11th St NW.
PUBLIC BAR: There are $3 Bud and Bud Lites and $4 Peronis at both locations.
Public Bar has locations in Dupont (1214 B 18th Street) and Tenley (4611 41st Street NW).
ELEPHANT & CASTLE: This downtown English restaurant, which is open at 11 a.m. every day, will have $5 Heinekens, Strongbows and Newcastles.
Elephant & Castle is located at 1201 Pennyslvania Avenue.
LAUGHING MAN TAVERN: The popular downtown sports bar is offering $4 Heineken Drafts and $3 PBR’s for every game of the World Cup.
Laughing Man Tavern is located at 1306 G Street NW.
CUBA LIBRE: There are $7 Leblon Cachaca cocktails and $5 tapas during all games at this Cuba joint. Plus on, for the Brazil-Mexico match on June 17 and the championship July 13, there are watching parties with more Leblon specialty drinks and a giveaway.

TOWN TAVERN: There are lots of deals at the Town Tavern, where there are $3 domestic bottles, $4 mix rails, $5 Bud Light drafts, and $6 burger baskets.

VENDETTA BOCCE BAR: Want a good deal on the grub? Vendetta will be open for all games and will have $2 sliders and meatball.

UNION JACK’S: This Columbia, Maryland restaurant will have the World Cup on in four different rooms and the patio! Plus, there are $3 Bud and Bud Lights drafts, $3 Bud Light Aluminum Bottles, and $4 Stella Artois.

CHI-CHA LOUNGE: The restaurant and hookah bar is offering $4 beers, $5 red/white sangria and $6 classic margaritas, plus $4 chips & salsa, $4 garlic & parsley fries, $6 chicken wings, $6 Chi-Cha sliders, $6 chicken quesadillas and $6 empanadas during every game. There’s also a kick-off party this Thursday.

CAPITOL LOUNGE: This Capitol Hill bar is offering $12 pitchers of Bud Light and Yuengling with a free shot of Jack Daniels after every U.S. goal.

SUMMERS RESTAURANT: This Arlington restaurant, which has frequently been called “best soccer bar,” has the match schedule on their website. However, their drink and food specials are not online. When we called, an employee assured us that there are $5 Heinekens and $5 Dos Equis, plus food specials.
Summers is located in 1520 N. Courthouse Road, Arlington, VA.
THE PUG: This H Street watering hole is a favorite among many for sports-watching. Whether it’s football, baseball, hockey, soccer, or whatever, regulars flock en masse to catch whatever games are on. No doubt that it’s going to be a hot spot for prime World Cup viewing.

UNION PUB: World Cup this week! We’ve got great specials coming your way every time the US plays, including $10 Bud buckets, $12 Bud Light pitchers and much more!

BELGA CAFE AND B TOO: “Chef Bart Vandaele is offering a menu of Frietkot inspired dished and beer specials inspired by the Belgian Red Devils including a Tricolor Beer Cocktail.” See the menu here.

BOURBON: Opens at noon for all games with $5 drafts, $5 sangria and $8 caipirinha.

COMMISSARY: Thursday through Sunday, Commissary “will be running beer and drink specials to celebrate the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Commissary has partnered with New Belgium Brewing for beer specials everyday inspired by the countries playing in each match (there’s even a beer brought in made from Brazilian coffee). New Belgium will be bringing in specialty glassware for the event and guests can “Keep The Cup”! All of the games will be shown on all screens, including the full wall projector. Commissary will also have $5 Capirinhas specials everyday, from open to close. Chef de Cuisine Ben Tenner will feature International Bar Snacks and Brazilian food tapas specials, starting at 11 a.m. daily.”

PINSTRIPES: “Pinstripes will be rooting for team USA and team Italia by offering half-price wood oven flatbreads while Team USA or Team Italia are playing. During Team USA games, Pinstripes Chicken Club flatbread will be offered for $7.The Chicken Club Flatbread features a crispy, housemade dough, thick-cut grilled chicken, slices of fresh avocado and crispy bacon. During Team Italia games, the Fig Prosciutto Flatbread will be offered for $6.50. Pinstripes’ Fig Prosciutto Flatbread features fresh mozzarella cheese, Italian prosciutto, dried figs and a balsamic reduction. Additionally, anytime either Team Italia or Team USA score a goal, everyone in the Pinstripes venue will receive a scoop of complimentary, housemade gelato.”

DACHA: “Soccer fans can enjoy an extended Happy Hour, Monday through Thursday, lasting from Noon to 7 p.m. including $5 singles and $10 boots of select drafts. Fuel that football fever with traditional brats, pretzels and Dacha’s ‘special sauce,’ the grill will be fired up every day of the week.”

And if you have a sweet tooth, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is bringing back its USA Doughnut, a “vanilla glaze confection with raspberry drizzle, blueberries and the letters USA piped in chocolate.” It’s $2.50 on days the U.S. plays (June 16, 22 and 26). The shop adds, “If the team advances out of the group stage, Astro will continue to serve the doughnut on game days. If the U.S. pulls off a win, Astro will also give out 32 doughnuts, one each, to the first people who come into the store after a win; 32 represents the number of participating countries. The USA doughnut will be available in the store, with limited quantities on the food truck.” Give-aways are in-store only.
