Despite losing 1-0 to Germany, the United States Men’s National Soccer Team will advance to the next round of the World Cup, because Portugal beat Ghana, or something. I don’t know, I don’t really understand soccer. Luckily, Gothamist’s Dan Dickinson is at the World Cup covering it for all the Ist sites, and he, along with our own Pablo Maurer, do understand soccer a great deal, so I don’t have to. I’m just to here to tell you about how soccer-crazy D.C. is ever since the World Cup started.
Since ESPN started broadcasting World Cup matches, D.C. has consistently been the highest-rated market. For today’s big match, the German Embassy hosted a free viewing party in Dupont Circle, with the match broadcasted on several large screens. And, with a note from the U.S.’s coach excusing them from work, thousands gathered in Dupont to watch the big game:
