For the past few weeks, several neighborhood listservs have shared a common complaint: Loud booms likely caused by illegal fireworks. To show that, yes, the police will try to find you and take these forbidden explosives, Sixth District Commander Robert J. Contee, III shared some photos.

I just wanted to inform you of a recent recovery of a large amount of fireworks by our Sixth District officers. I know this time of year (July 4th) is very challenging for many residents, police and the fire department. I have received a number of complaints from residents about explosions and the need for something to be done about the illegal fireworks in our community. We have assigned officers on all tours of duty to actively patrol for persons engaged in the selling or using of illegal fireworks and to take any additional law enforcement action as necessary.

It is impossible to confiscate every illegal firework out there, but please know that your police officers are making a great effort to protect the community and remove these dangerous devices from our streets.

You’ve been warned!
