It’s another hot day in the D.C. area—temperatures are floating in the mid-90s, with the heat index much higher, as I type this—which means there’s going to be some heat-related problems. Most notably, delays for several MARC lines.
According to a release, CSX has issued a heat-related speed restriction for MARC’s Camden and Brunswick lines through the afternoon and evening. The Brunswick line runs between D.C.’s Union Station and Martinsburg, WVa., while the Camden line runs between Union Station and Baltimore’s Camden Station. That could be an issue for anyone traveling from Baltimore to catch the Orioles play the Nats at Nationals Park. Fortunately, the delay should be lifted by the time the game ends. The Penn line, which travels from Union Station to Baltimore’s Penn Station, however, isn’t under any heat restrictions.
During heat restrictions, trains travel at reduced speeds, which could cause anywhere from a five to 15 minute delay.
And as for tomorrow, temperatures are expected to be even hotter, which means there will probably be more MARC delays. So hot that the Department of Public Works will begin trash and recycling pickup at 6 a.m. again.
