Angry about all the potholes on your street? Pissed at your neighbor who won’t clean up their dog’s droppings? Save it for Rep. Andy Harris, who will surely listen to your problems and absolutely solve it, 100 percent.

At least that’s what DC Vote thinks Harris should be doing, since he’s now trying to meddle in D.C.’s affairs, via an amendment to the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Bill to block funding for D.C.’s marijuana decriminalization law. As a result, DC Vote has cheekily organized “DC Councilmember Andy Harris Constituent Service Day” for Thursday*, and is asking people to meet outside of his office at 1533 House Longworth Building at 11 a.m. to let him know that, if he’s going to meddle in D.C. affairs, he might as well run for D.C. Council.

“He’s shown a strong interest in the District of Columbia so he should help out with constituent problems,” says James Jones, Communications Director of DC Vote. The organization is asking District constituents to join them in delivering Harris their complaints about the city—potholes, rats, building permits, unfair parking tickets, etc.. They’re asking people to bring props, too (but not firearms or explosives, obviously).

What kinds of props? “Poop bags, if your neighbors don’t pick up their dog’s poop,” says Jones. “Or pictures of potholes, dirty alleys, plastic rats,” he adds. “Bring a plunger if you have a sewage problem.”

Obviously, DC Vote knows this demonstration won’t stop Harris from trying to meddle in D.C. affairs, but Jones says this is a way for District residents to vent against Congressmen like Harris—as well as Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, who recently introduce an amendment to stop D.C. from enforcing gun laws—who try and mess with local laws.

“We’ve heard from lots of people who are quite disgusted with what Harris and Massie are doing in regards to D.C.’s marijuana decriminalization and gun laws,” Jones says. “This is kind of a way for them to vent.”
