Sad tears: famed longtime Georgetown saloon, Mr. Smith’s, is closing soon.
As Young & Hungry reports, the self-proclaimed “friendliest saloon in town,” which has been a Georgetown staple for nearly 50 years, will close its doors at the end of the month. DCist reached out to manager Ernesto Carrasco to get more details and will update with more details when we hear back.
Mr. Smith’s has been a Georgetown institution for decades, known for its antique bar, sing-a-long piano, and secret garden patio. According to Y&H, Mr. Smith’s is closing because their landlord, who is based in Boston, is raising the rent and the saloon can no longer afford it. There’s a possibility it might relocate, however. We’ll update when we find out more.
