Tomorrow is PARK(ing) Day, when spaces reserved for vehicles are temporarily transformed into areas where humans can interact. Sixteen sites, mainly in the downtown area, have been approved to serve as little gathering spaces from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In Georgetown, Baked & Wired’s parklet will feature “reclaimed railroad tracks as well as fresh plants and grass.” One hosted by Luke’s Lobster will feature food and drink specials, including a combo deal for $5. Complimentary Arnold Palmers can be found at carpet design company FLOR’s set up in Cady’s Alley.

Alba Osteria will host its own park, while giving away 25 panini inside beginning at 11:30 a.m. Capital Bikeshare will celebrate its fourth anniversary at the goDCgo site. There will be cupcakes and games. NoMa BID will give away free ice cream to 100 people at their First and Pierce streets NE space starting at noon.

If you find yourself tomorrow thinking, “Boy these tiny parks are great! I wish they could exist year-round,” know you’re not alone. A group was formed last year to explore the idea, but it went nowhere.
