D.C.’s first MOM’s Organic Market, located in the Hecht warehouse development on New York Avenue, will celebrate its opening tonight with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The store officially opens tomorrow with a bonus: Five percent of first-day sales Friday through Sunday will go to Sasha Bruce Youthwork, an organization that helps and shelters homeless kids. MOM’s will also assist homeless and at-risk youth “market and sell the organic produce young people have grown at Sasha Bruce gardens.”

Mayor-elect Muriel Bowser and officials from the Douglas Development Corporation, responsible for the redevelopment of the old Hecht building, will attend tonight’s ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Groundbreaking officially took place in January, with 350 apartments and two floors of retail planned.
