Native American activists are planning to rally at the last Washington football team game against the Dallas Cowboys, which will take place on December 28 at home at FedEx Field.
According to a release, the rally and preceding march is being organized by the National Congress of American Indians, the Oneida Indian Nation’s Change the Mascot campaign, the American Indian Movement, the National Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media, Not Your Mascots, and other activist groups. Organizers hope to draw hundreds, if not more to the rally.
In a release, organizers called on owner Dan Snyder to do the right thing and changed the team’s name, writing “Washington’s ongoing use of a Native American slur and mascot promotes the dehumanization, marginalization, and stereotyping of Native peoples.”
The march will will take place at 10 a.m., with a rally to conclude following the march. A specific location has yet to be determined, organizers wrote.
In early November, thousands of activists protested against the team’s name in Minneapolis during their game against the Vikings.
