D.C. added nine miles of bike lanes this year, a record for the city but an amount lower than a yearly goal of ten stated in a master plan.

Officials from the D.C. Department of Transportation celebrated the record today near the National Mall, where an unprotected bike lane on 4th Street NW and SW recently opened. While a 2005 master plan placed the yearly goal at ten miles per year, the two-year Move DC action plan calls for 7.5 miles per year.

Of the nine miles added this year, almost two miles are protected, according to DDOT. The first below map shows where bike facilities were planned for this year. An updated map is beneath that.
