A D.C. couple is facing child cruelty charges after leaving two toddlers in an unheated car while they attending a wine tasting over the weekend, police say.
According to a Metropolitan Police Department report, the couple was arrested Saturday at 4:45 p.m. after reports of two children locked in a car in the 1100 block of 23rd Street NW, near Washington Circle.
WJLA reports that the couple, 45-year-old Jennie Chang and 41-year-old Christophe Lucas, were attending a wine tasting at the restaurant Ris in the West End neighborhood. The couple allegedly left their two toddlers in their car for more than an hour with no heat running during the time. The temperature outside was about 28 degrees fahrenheit.
The couple faces second-degree cruelty to children charges and, if convicted, could spend up to ten years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
