Gently making a mockery of the legions of panda cam fans who tune in for Bao Bao’s every cute-but-extremely-dull move, the National Zoo presents its April Fools’ Day entry: the sloth cam.

The zoo put out a vine of the “new action-packed two-toed sloth cam,” featuring a pile of breathing fur that could be anywhere between one and three sloths hanging out in a box. (Side note: incredibly, this isn’t the first vine to be hashtagged #dropitlikeasloth)

On Facebook, the zoo used it as an educational opportunity, writing:

Two-toed sloths are native to Central America and northern South America, including Peru and Brazil. Their brownish-gray fur curves from the stomach to the back, unlike most mammals, allowing rain to run off. The fur is usually home to algae, which help camouflage these rainforest canopy animals.

This is how you do it people: A parody of real life that is short, topical, and vaguely disappointing that it isn’t real.

But for those who are brokenhearted that the sloth cam isn’t actually up, may we suggest the real naked mole rat cam?
