Via Serial/Chicago Public Radio. The enormously popular podcast exploring whether Adnan Syed was guilty or innocent in the murder of his ex-girlfriend ended, the requisite SNL spoof aired, a major company made a joke about it and was forced to apologize—we’ve even since heard from Jay. Just when you thought things had quieted down on the Serial discussion front (Syed is still in the midst of arguing for a new trial), comes another podcast that promises to continue exploring the case.
“In the wake of Serial, much new evidence and information has been discovered and uncovered,” reads the website for Undisclosed: The State v. Adnan Syed.
The series is created by Rabia Chaudry, who listeners will remember as the woman who implored Sarah Koenig to get on the case, and two other lawyers, Susan Simpson and Colin Miller. Donations to The Adnan Syed Trust (which has raised more than $93,000 of its $250,000 goal) funded the project.
Considering that Chaudry has steadfastly maintained his innocence, the podcast is likely to appeal to the people firmly in Syed’s camp (and those that like to obsessively argue with them).
Chaydry told PBS Newshour that the podcast will be investigatory rather than a narrative, with both analysis of facts we learned in Serial (like the much-discussed cell tower evidence) and new information about the case.
“Susan and Colin have been taking a closer look, and with their own private investigator, continuing the investigation,” she said.
Given that all three are lawyers, the series also promises to look at the criminal justice system and how the process played out for Syed.
The first episode premieres on April 13 (t is unclear how many they will put out.) Meanwhile, the second season of Serial will focus on a completely different investigation.
