Green Line and MARC trains aren’t running between the College Park and Greenbelt stations after a pedestrian bridge collapsed on the tracks.
According to the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department, no injuries were reported as no people were around at the time of the bridge’s collapse. The PG County fire department says the bridge’s collapse was caused by a piece of construction equipment hit the bridge, which is located in the 5100 block of Berwyn Road.
WMATS said in a release that the bridge was struck “shortly before 3 p.m. … after being struck by the boom of a rail crane operated by a Metro contractor.” Skanska, the contractor, was “performing work to support the construction of a new track.
Metro says to expect Green Line delays to continue this evening and possibly into the night as crews work to cleanup the situation.
