Metro Transit Police have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a 69-year-old man at the Eastern Market Metro station a couple weeks ago.

Last week, MTP identified and issued a warrant for 19-year-old Elijah Smith, who allegedly punched and spit on a 69-year-old man at the top of an escalator bank at the Eastern Market station on Friday, April 24. He was transported to a nearby hospital for injuries to his face.

WJLA reports that Smith was arrested last night and charged with felony assault. If he’s convicted, Smith faces a prison term of 1.5 times the maximum term because of the victim’s age.
