Capital Bikeshare’s resident tweeter spends a pretty substantial amount of time responding to disgruntled riders complaining about empty and full docks. Despite the best efforts of their bike balancing team (according to CaBi, they move 2,600 bikes every weekday during peak season), the demand at some stations and times of the day is just too much to keep up with.

Starting Thursday, though, morning commuters are guaranteed a spot at one of two new downtown “corrals,” where staffers will be on hand to handle any overflow. From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on weekdays, all Bikeshare riders can drop their rides off at the corner of 21st and Eye Streets NW in Foggy Bottom or near Metro Center at 13th Street and New York Avenue NW. The service is free, and just in time for Bike to Work Day. CaBi has also acquired a bigger truck to serve their rebalancing efforts.

Corral Service will run through the end of September, though Capital Bikeshare said they will consider extending it depending on demand.

Now, if only Car2Go would do the same for those desperate souls trying to find a parking spot downtown.
