LaRuby May narrowly eked out a win in Ward 8, beating Trayon White by just 79 votes, according to unofficial results from the D.C. Board of Elections released Friday.

DCBOE will hold an audit of two randomly selected precincts in each ward today, which it traditionally does before certifying the results. The official results will be released on Thursday.

May, a former campaign staffer for Mayor Muriel Bowser, won with a little more than a quarter of the vote: 26.76 percent. White picked up another 25.67 percent. The remainder was split among the large field, with Sheila Bunn trailing in third with 10 percent.

The seat will come up for re-election again next year, and White has vowed to run again.
