Charnice Milton, who reported for Capital Community News, was shot near Good Hope and Naylor Roads in Southeast around 9:40 p.m. She was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Capitol Community News publishes The Hill Rag, East of the River, and several other local blogs. “Charnice was a talented reporter with an engaging manner that endeared her to her sources. She was a valued member of the CCN news team completing several assignments a month. This organization will miss her contributions as will the communities of Wards 6, 7 and 8,” CCN said in a statement.
No suspects have been identified yet, according to MPD spokesman police spokesman Hugh Carew said. Although CCN indicated that the shooting was apparently random, Carew said the investigation is ongoing and couldn’t confirm if that was the case.
Milton reported on ANC meetings and neighborhood news for CCN since 2012 and lived in Ward 7’s Benning Heights. She graduated from Ball State and earned a Master’s from Syracuse University.
She was just a few weeks shy of her 28th birthday.
