D.C. Police are searching for a group of people riding ATVs and dirt bikes in connection with the killing of a local journalist last month.

Charnice Milton was shot in the 2700 block of Good Hope Road SE around 9:40 p.m. on May 27. Police said that someone on a dirt bike fired at the 27-year-old reporter for Capital Community New and that she wasn’t the intended target. Milton was changing buses on her way home from covering a community meeting. Her family members have said that she was used as a human shield.

Black-and-white footage from a nearby surveillance camera shows a group of vehicles, some with two riders, driving through the street. Police hope to identify and question them.

“Help us get to the person who would be so reckless as to take this life in the manner it was taken,” D.C. Police Chief Cathy Laneir said at a press conference last week. “We need closure for this girl, for this community.”

Police ask that anyone who could identify the people on the video or has knowledge of the incident should call police at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
