There’s a new -palooza in town and it’s coming for your alley.

Mayor Muriel Bowser and District Department of Transportation Director Leif Dormsjo are kicking off the summer of AlleyPalooza tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Eight alleys in each ward will be renovated under the program. The work runs the gamut from minor repairs to tearing it all up and completely reconstructing it, according to DDOT spokesman Keith St. Clair. “In the majority of the locations, these people are getting entirely new segments or alleys,” he said.

The specific alleys were chosen based on 311 calls, a review by DDOT engineers, and other community feedback. But the two-month push isn’t the end of the city’s commitment to sprucing up the out-of-sight spots, St. Clair promised.

“It’s not just a blitz that we’re going to do in two months and then forget about it,” he said. “We’re doing [work on] alleys all the time, weather permitting.”
