D.C. Police have released a video of persons and vehicles of interest in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon in Shaw.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., 23-year-old Matthew Castro Shlonsky was getting out of a cab in the 1800 block of 7th Street NW when he was struck by a bullet that police believe was intended for someone else. At a press conference yesterday, Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said that they believe Shlonsky was caught in the middle of a shootout, in which guns were fired from opposite sidewalks near the intersection of 7th and S Streets NW, the Post reports.
The MPD released a video depicting six people and two vehicles they say are “of interest” in the homicide of Shlonsky.
Following the shootout, Lanier said that one of the persons of interest waved a gun at a person and shot at another as he made a high-speed getaway. One of the vehicles used by the suspects in the shooting is a stolen burgundy Chrysler 300 that was later recovered.
Police still haven’t determined a motive for the shooting, but the Post reports that “it could have stemmed from a dispute at a nearby dice game.”
