Police are addressing an active barricade situation in the 3700 block of 18th Street NE after a woman was shot and critically injured killed.

A Metropolitan Police Department public information officer says that the shooting occurred at about 10:40 a.m. in the Brookland neighborhood. When authorities arrived on the scene, the victim was not conscious or breathing.

The barricade situation is a block away from the scene of the shooting and the MPD PIO says the two incidents are related. A release from the MPD urges residents near the scene to follow guidance from officers on site and take shelter. We’ll update as more information becomes available.
