The Washington Monument reopened normally this morning after an elevator outage last night stranded 63 people at the top.
The outage was caused by an issue with the door contacts, National Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst said in a release. Three people were on board at the time, but the elevator was safely recalled, NBC4 reported. The fire department helped bring the remaining visitors down, including two pregnant women who were brought down in a chair.
