Update: A National Park Service spokesperson says that the rally will take place Saturday at Upper Senate Park instead of the Lincoln Memorial. Regardless, probably best to just avoid the National Mall altogether.
Original post:
Brace yourselves, D.C.: this weekend will see an influx of Confederate flag-toting visitors marching around the Lincoln Memorial for the “Save Southern History & Heritage March.”
Details about the event are scarce, but the Web site ConfederateNews.net says that the March will happen at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. According to a Facebook page, there will also be a convoy of motorcyclists (but all vehicles welcome) traveling to the march from Gettysburg, departing at 9 a.m. from, appropriately, the General Lee Monument on—you guessed it—Confederate Avenue.
Requests for more information from the apparent organizers of the march have not yet been returned. We reached out to the National Park Service to see if they had any more information about the planned march and will update when we hear back.
Anyway, probably best to avoid the National Mall on Saturday.
